Here we go...

OK, fellow gardeners, we will be planting onions and peas this weekend.  This is a 5th Saturday so we are going to do things just a little different.  We need about 8 people down at the garden this Saturday at 8 a.m. to help plant onions and peas.  That is all.... so, the first 8 people who post on this blog (below) that they can come and help at 8 a.m. on Saturday is who we'll take.  IF we don't get 8 volunteers, we'll be calling and asking certain garden members to come and help us.

Let's see if this experiment works.  You just need to bring work gloves; we'll provide the rest Saturday.

So, ready... set.... volunteer!

Thanks!

A Favorite Blog and Growing herbs

I wanted to introduce you to one of my favorite blogs... "Old World Gardens":

http://oldworldgardenfarms.com/2013/03/26/growing-herbs-great-for-your-garden-and-your-kitchen/

I follow a lot of blogs, but for some reason, I learn more from this one than any of the other ones (well, besides one other which I will share with you later)....  This is a couple who bought a three acre plot of land in Ohio that was covered with trees and poison ivy.  You need to read their story:

http://oldworldgardenfarms.com/how-it-all-started/

It is wonderful -- how they purchased this land so that they could simplify life.  I still am not sure how they simplify life by doing this because they both are career professionals and this land / garden is in addition to that, but I love their story and I love how much I have learned by following it.  I know I'll be posting things from them often, but if you want to follow them separately, there is a place on their blog to sign up to do so.

growing herbsAnyway, thought you would enjoy their post this morning -- it is on growing herbs, which we hope all of you will try at LEAST one herb this year in your kitchen window, in your backyard, or wherever.  We hope to teach you how to dry them and preserve them for use all winter long.

So, enjoy this fun blog... and hoping for warmer temps today!

WELCOME!

You found us!  YEH!  Welcome to our BLESSED COMMUNITY GARDEN!  We are so excited to have you with us!

Not too much to post today; I need to bring this blog up-to-date with what we have done so far and I will do that sometime this week/weekend, but in the meantime scroll through last year's posts.

One thing for today, though -- Kim purchased today 1000 sets of onions and all the peas and the beans (Kelley -- SLENDERETTES!!!!!!)

This Saturday, weather permitting, we will have our first garden planting BUT we realized today that at least for right now, it is NOT even light at 6:30 a.m., so for the first several weeks (until it is lighter and warmer earlier), we will need to change the time to 8:00 a.m.  We hopefully will be sending you the team schedule tomorrow and we'll get started.

Let me know what you think of the blog....

Happy Gardening!

Before you know it, it will be canning season!!!!
